Echoes

5–31 August 2025

Book and Art | Komninaki Road, Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece

Maria Giannikou presents her solo painting exhibition Echoes at Book and Art in Mytilene.

Echoes is a visual enquiry into memory: the whispers of the past and the traces they leave on time and the human presence. Through works with a distinctly personal language, the artist explores the interplay between silence and sound, between what is seen and what remains concealed.

Drawing inspiration from lived experience, landscapes, and emotional reflections, the exhibition invites the viewer into an in-between territory of recollection and inner dialogue. Balancing the abstract with the recognisable, Echoes unfolds as an introspective route through absence and quiet, while revealing the persistent impact of the past on the present.

The paintings act as fragments of memory. Repeating motifs, subtle marks, and “sonic” gaps suggest a conversation between the works and the viewer. Shifts in colour, texture, and light-dark contrast underline the meaning of an echo, not only as sound, but as emotional recall.
